- If you're still using serial devices and have moved to Windows 8, you need this adapter. If you had adapters based on the Prolific chipset, the available drivers for Windows 8 (as of 8/2014) don't work. This adapter uses the newer and better supported FTDI chipset. Their drivers work. This adapter works.
